The Stolen Generations Journey

Picture
The generations of children of Australian aboriginal and Torres strait islander decent who were taken from their families became known as The Stolen Generation. Mainly between 1910 and 1970 this took place, in Australia

The Europeans wanted to engage them into a white society, in order to they sent the children to insitutions run by churches or they were adopted by non-aboriginal families as a result of government policies. These policies are now recongnised as misleading and destructive.

The impact on The Stolen Generation is that many of the children have never overcome the traumatic loss and seperation from their families and after being disposesed with their culture.  The families of these childrens were all impacted, many mothers are still distressed about their experiences of their children being taken away without their consent.
